About Miriam Otte – Cyanotype Artist on Mallorca
Miriam Otte is a photographer and cyanotype artist on Mallorca who has worked between Berlin, Zürich, Barcelona and now the Balearic Islands for more than twenty years. Her artistic language moves between close observation of nature and abstraction – plants, leaves, shadows or organic structures are often the starting point, yet they dissolve into pure forms and fluid gradients.
In her studio in Inca, Mallorca, she creates large-scale cyanotype artworks that capture the rhythm of nature while at the same time reaching beyond it. The characteristic shades of blue emerge through the interplay of sunlight, water and light-sensitive chemistry – each work a unique handmade cyanotype, an imprint of time and transience, available as one-of-a-kind art pieces for collectors and design spaces.
Focus – Unique Cyanotype Artworks & Botanical Imprints
Miriam’s current practice is centered on cyanotype art, an early photographic printing process from the 19th century. At Studio Feliz Blau, she explores the full spectrum of this medium: from detailed portraits of Balearic plants to abstract impressions, layered compositions and delicate tonal transitions. Her cyanotype artworks for sale on Mallorca oscillate between clarity and dissolution – always guided by the elemental presence of nature.
Cyanotype Workshops & Creative Experiences on Mallorca
Alongside her artistic practice, Miriam shares her expertise through cyanotype workshops in Mallorca. She taught photography and image editing at a private art and design school in Zürich, and today she invites people of all ages to experience cyanotype at Studio Feliz Blau in Inca.
Her offers include:
-
Cyanotype workshops for individuals and groups
-
Cyanotype & Brunch experiences on Mallorca – a creative morning combining art and Mediterranean flavors
-
Creative team events with cyanotype – perfect for companies and groups seeking an inspiring artistic activity on Mallorca
In her sessions she acts less as a teacher and more as a guide: encouraging participants to experiment, play and discover their own visual language. Whether through botanical imprints, personal negatives transformed into prints, or spontaneous shadow drawings, she creates space for curiosity and a sense of wonder.
Why Blue – The Essence of Cyanotype
For Miriam, cyanotype is more than a technique – it is a meditative dialogue between light, matter and time. She is fascinated by the element of surprise inherent in the medium: the soft bleeding of tones, the way shadows solidify into presence, the gradual transformation of forms.
Even the blue itself is alive – fading in the sun, only to return in the dark. Each cyanotype is both fragile and enduring, a living trace of what once touched the paper.
In Short
Miriam Otte is a Berlin-born photographer and cyanotype artist based on Mallorca. After a classical apprenticeship in photography, years of professional practice and teaching in Berlin, Barcelona and Zürich, she founded Baudoku Berlin together with Lidia Tirri/ photographer in 2016, later expanded to Baudoku International in 2022. In the same year she created Studio Feliz Blau, where her artistic practice and teaching now converge.
Whether capturing plants in meticulous detail or exploring abstract gradients of light and form, her work always resonates with the living pulse of nature – rendered in its most elemental color: blue.
