Citrus Limon is a contemporary cyanotype series created on Mallorca in 2024 by artist and photographer Miriam Otte. Inspired by Mediterranean flora and the natural abundance of the Balearic Islands, this body of work explores the relationship between nature, memory, light, and botanical form through the historic cyanotype process.

As with all of Miriam Otte’s botanical artworks, the series is deeply rooted in the surrounding landscape and everyday encounters with local plants. Living on Mallorca means being immersed in an environment shaped by fertile soil, seasonal transformation, and an extraordinary diversity of Mediterranean vegetation.

The citrus tree became the central motif of this first cyanotype collection. During blossom season, their intense fragrance fills the island air with a soft and luminous presence. Later, ripe lemons and oranges emerge as vibrant points of color within the landscape — symbols of vitality, warmth, and abundance.

Created as hand-signed unique pieces in A4 and A3 format, each framed cyanotype combines botanical printing, fine art photography, and traditional cyanotype techniques. A central element of the series is the artistic exploration of translucent materials, which create additional contours, layers, and delicate light structures within the compositions.

Through branches, leaves, blossoms, and citrus fruits, Citrus Limon pays homage to the quiet beauty of Mediterranean nature and the generosity of Mother Earth. The resulting blue-and-white artworks reflect both the fragility and abundance of the natural world while capturing the atmosphere of Mallorca’s flora in a timeless visual language.

Citrus Limon es una serie contemporánea de cianotipias creada en Mallorca en 2024 por la artista y fotógrafa Miriam Otte. Inspirada en la flora mediterránea y en la abundancia natural de las Islas Baleares, esta obra explora la relación entre naturaleza, memoria, luz y forma botánica a través del histórico proceso de la cianotipia.

Como en todas las obras botánicas de Miriam Otte, la serie está profundamente conectada con el paisaje que la rodea y con el encuentro cotidiano con las plantas locales. Vivir en Mallorca significa habitar un entorno marcado por la fertilidad de la tierra, el cambio de las estaciones y una extraordinaria diversidad de vegetación mediterránea.

El árbol cítrico se convirtió en el motivo central de esta primera colección de cianotipias. Durante la floración, su intenso aroma llena el aire de la isla con una presencia suave y luminosa. Más tarde, limones y naranjas maduros aparecen como puntos vibrantes de color en el paisaje, símbolos de vitalidad, calidez y abundancia.

Realizadas como piezas únicas firmadas a mano en formatos A4 y A3, y presentadas enmarcadas, cada cianotipia combina impresión botánica, fotografía artística y técnicas tradicionales de cianotipia. Un elemento central de la serie es la exploración artística de materiales translúcidos, que generan contornos adicionales, capas sutiles y delicadas estructuras de luz dentro de las composiciones.

A través de ramas, hojas, flores y frutos cítricos, Citrus Limon rinde homenaje a la belleza silenciosa de la naturaleza mediterránea y a la generosidad de la Madre Tierra. Las obras en azul y blanco reflejan tanto la fragilidad como la abundancia del mundo natural y capturan la atmósfera de la flora mallorquina en un lenguaje visual atemporal.

Citrus Limon ist eine zeitgenössische Cyanotypie-Serie der Künstlerin und Fotografin Miriam Otte, entstanden auf Mallorca im Jahr 2024. Inspiriert von der mediterranen Flora und der natürlichen Fülle der Balearen untersucht die Werkserie die Verbindung von Natur, Erinnerung, Licht und botanischer Form durch das historische Verfahren der Cyanotypie.

Wie alle botanischen Arbeiten von Miriam Otte ist auch diese Serie tief in der umgebenden Landschaft und den täglichen Begegnungen mit lokalen Pflanzen verwurzelt. Das Leben auf Mallorca bedeutet, von fruchtbarer Erde, dem Wandel der Jahreszeiten und einer außergewöhnlichen Vielfalt mediterraner Vegetation umgeben zu sein.

Der Zitrusbaum wurde zum zentralen Motiv dieser ersten Cyanotypie-Serie. Während der Blütezeit erfüllt sein intensiver Duft die Luft der Insel mit einer weichen, leuchtenden Präsenz. Später erscheinen reife Zitronen und Orangen als lebendige Farbakzente in der Landschaft – Sinnbilder für Vitalität, Wärme und Fülle.

Die Arbeiten entstehen als handsignierte Unikate in A4- und A3-Format und werden gerahmt präsentiert. Jede Cyanotypie verbindet botanischen Druck, Fine-Art-Fotografie und traditionelle Cyanotypie-Techniken. Ein zentrales gestalterisches Element der Serie ist die stilistische Auseinandersetzung mit transluzenten Materialien, die zusätzliche Konturen, feine Überlagerungen und subtile Lichtstrukturen innerhalb der Kompositionen erzeugen.

Mit Darstellungen von Zweigen, Blättern, Blüten und Zitrusfrüchten ist Citrus Limon eine Hommage an die stille Schönheit der mediterranen Natur und die Großzügigkeit von Mutter Erde.
